Reflectix on underside of trailer?

I'm going to go ahead and get some Reflectix to line the inside of our tenting (under mattress and in tenting windows, and it got me to thinking. Has anyone installed Reflectix (or some equivalent) on the underbelly of the trailer? I find that the floor is quite cold, we put down throw rugs but it's still chilly.
I'm not sure I would install it everywhere, but perhaps in spots that get the most foot traffic.
I've also got Cabela emergency blankets on the tenting roof, wondering if backing it with Reflectix as well would help with heat loss?
Looking for feedback on this!
  • Keep in mind that Reflectix does NOT BREATHE.

How that affects your installation depends how you use it.

Be sure to check under your mattress in the am for moisture. We often throw a pool noodle under it during the day to provide ventilation, when camping in very cold conditions.

PUGs over the canvas, Reflectix under the mattresses, pool noodles between the edges of the mattress and the canvas, and electric blanket for DD.

We also use synthetic blankets, which REALLY help wick moisture away from your body. That's very important for warmth and comfort in cold conditions.

We have carpet on our floors, keeps it pretty decent. DW and DD wear slippers that stay with and inside the camper.

Reflectix is best for radiant heat reflection, usually above or very close to the heat source (like your body in the bunk)

Rigid foam in the bottom would likely be better insulation, but is less flexible. Be sure to account for trailer and frame flex.

Pointing a small fan up at the ceiling seems to be the best we've found for circulating the heat without creating a draft.

    Hope this helps.
  • Interesting thread, thanks for the link. Reading through it, foam board might be a better solution, better R value.
  • My 5er just has corrugated plastic as a bottom cover. I'm sure the Reflectix would do a better job. Mine is just screwed to the frame on the sides with a strip of wood between frame rails to screw to for center support. Where 2 sheets joined together they folded back each side to make it interlock. You can still unscrew it and have access to everything.

Good luck and warm feet to you.
