refrig fan

I have 2 battery styles and swear by them. I have tried relocating the sensor with very little joy. The fans do as advertised.

I boondock on weekend trips in what is probably some of the hottest weather RVers experience, up to 113 degrees and 95 at night. I have had 3 different RVs well past 100 and all 3 kept temperature just fine on propane without using a fan inside or over the coils. My air conditioning is on for the duration and I'm only out 3 days or so. My fridge isn't nearly packed full to bursting. I just don't see the need for gadgets like fridge fans.

Fan inside or fan outside? These are two entirely different issues. When your fridge is working sufficiently, cold air inside the fridge has a tendency to drop. Things at the bottom get colder than those at the top. If it is too cold inside then you get frozen lettuce. Circulating the air inside the fridge is a good idea as previously posted.

If, on the other hand, your fridge is not getting cold enough then adding a fan on the outside can help it function better. Mine vents through the roof and works just fine even in the direct sunlight on hot days. Others have fridges that vent out the side of the trailer making it more difficult to draw air through the vent. Most of the smaller Airstreams today with these fridges come with built in fans.

I used one as a newb and everything in the fridge froze. Ruined the veggies in the drawer.

I found that the fridge worked well and I had to defrost less often.

I've used this one for the past two seasons. I'm able to use one or two settings warmer and maintain the same temperature in the box as before installation. I added a micro toggle switch to turn it on and off, and wired it directly to the 12v fridge line-in. The Nevada heat and sun can be brutal, and this fan works great at keeping the fridge cold without working as hard.

Absorption fridge relies on convection to circulate cold air near the cooling fins. The air gets trapped when we pack a lot of food in the box. Those little "D" battery fans help circulate the air in , around and between all the food. I think they cut down the moisture as well. I have always used one.

The small one that works off batteries in the reefer, has always worked fine for me, as previous answers stated, anything that moves the air inside the reefer helps, I also have a couple of pooter fans on the rear to remove the hot air ans that also helps too.

I put a couple small computer fans against the fins on the inside and was able to lower my Norcold fridge setting from 5 to 4, and the beer is colder. :)
