Whenever I travel, I usually look in advance at google maps satellite view to actually find and view the stations layout. I know how far I can drive on a tank making it easy to pick and choose my gas stops. I just keep my list of stations on hand.
Interstate roads are usually never a problem for gas stops. Most all are major corporate stations geared for easy on/off access.
