Regens in F350 often

Hi guys.
Seems my 2012 6.7 litre f350 has all of a sudden loved the regeneration thing!
I am talking 4 straight days I get the screen prompt " cleaning exhaust filter" while still on same tank of fuel?....

I always kept it finish when started as I did have an issue with sensors in the first year of ownership and learning Diesel patterns. I even reset the trip meter when regen starts to know it is within range of completion.
For what it's worth truck runs great during entire process.
Anyone have this happen?
I did have the latest reflash at dealer as per letter sent from Ford.
Thanks

Yes. I run the new time and distance to be sure every time and watch fuel changes. Usually takes 12-15 minutes on avg. depending on city vs highway.

Perhaps it could be the load of fuel you have. At highway speeds mine completes the regen process right about 10 miles. The latest flash did not affect the regen frequency and time/miles to complete a regen.

Did you notice the issue after having the "reflash" ?

How about your engine oil level... have you noticed it going up or staying the same?

Do you fuel up at the same place all the time, since this issue started?

    - "reflash" may have a NOx sensor that's gone bad
    - check oil level if its going up.. leaky/cracked injector
    - try getting fuel at a different fueling station

Are you climbing a lot of hills lately? If EGTs (exhaust temps) reach 570+ your truck will do "passive" regens do to soot build up.

FYI... As a rack up the miles I notice my '12 truck regens less frequent.

You are getting older, sometimes we forget.:B

  • My 2012 6.7 does the same thing. Go a while with few regens. Then it suddenly start regens frequently for a while. Then back to less frequent. It does do more if I go some time with few highway miles. I too can tow the 5er for hours and not see a regens.
  • No driving pattern changes at all. It does seem strange. It does not regen much pulling my fifth wheel as it is under 9k loaded and it does not work the truck hard at all. Passive regens probably.
4 over a few days is weird.
  • Have your driving habits changed lately? More stop and go city driving, right foot getting heavier or operating empty?

More stop and go will produce more soot same as heavier right foot.

Some have gone to using Diesel Kleen... and driving like a granny... a little slower off the line.
