What ever happened to the local starter and alternator rebuilding guys? Not many around anymore, at least in these parts. Used to have 3 or 4 in one small little town in VA, not a one today.
They got old, did absolutely no business continuance planning to pass it on to the next generation, and ended up closing their doors. Also factor in the cheap "remanufactured" available from big box auto parts stores 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, while they're open from 10AM to 4PM Monday through Friday. They couldn't match the price or levels of service that the big box provides.
The only business the local starter/alternator shops get anymore is stuff that cheap remanufactured replacements are not available for.
