I can remember, as a kid, how much fun it was, just to get a ride in a pickup truck. My dad would bring one home from work a couple times a year. We never owned one when I lived at home.

Well, "forever" in the general sense of the term.. ;)
It's actually on it's 3rd 390 and 2nd C6 trans...
The first one died at around 100,000 miles around 1980. Dad and I swapped out for a crate 390 in a weekend.
The 1st trans went out not long after that.
Fast forward to 2014 when Dad wanted to start working on the truck for real..
He thought he had a leaky freeze plug, but turned out to be a cracked block..
So, in went 390 #3. At least this one is setup for unleaded fuel!
Still a lot of original parts on the truck, as it's more of a "refurbish" more than an actual "restore"..
Makes for a decent driver again and still gets around 10 mpg!
