Mitch,
When I read your recollection it triggered an experience I recently had in Minnesota. We used to camp at a small state park all summer, in fact we would leave our trailer on the property of a local couple and pick it up every friday evening, then drive a few miles to our campsite and set up for the weekend.
We trailered to this state park from '59 to about '70'. I aged out from camping with my parents around 1965.
But my wife and I drove down to the old lake for a trip down memory lane, this past June.
First place I drove to, was the camp road around the old camp site. It was the gravel road, where I first drove. Ever.
I know I was young, only 12, but this was in 1961, when there was a lot less people camping and this particular road was little traveled.
The car I first got behind the steering wheel, was our '61 Chevy Nomad (Impala)station wagon. Our tow car at the time.
I didn't go past 10 mph, my dad (passed away now) sat next to me in the front seat, watching my every move. It was one of the big moments in my life as a young fellow.
Anyway...I went down the same road...same speed....54 years later...this time with my wife sitting next to me and this time in our 2015 Impala.
Kind of nice to repeat history.
