Ahh the old days. One of my cars in the '60's was a '67 Camaro RS coupe with a 327 V8 and 4 speed. It moved out nicely....as long as I paid attention to what rpm I used coming off the line. Too much and it sat there and spun ...as the axle 'jack hammered'...courtesy of having a single leaf per side....supporting the single axle. Bad design.
Also the 9.5 inch drum brakes were not up to much more than one hard brake, before fading.
I did out accelerate a late '60's Charger with a 426 Hemi, with automatic at the track. Three times in a row !!
How did I manage this feat with a lowly 327 ? Easy... the Hemi driver just buried the throttle, at the line, every time. The Hemi just sat there futilely scrambling for traction, with it's stock tires.
I don't think the Hemi moved forward more than five feet, till the driver lifted off the gas. I think the driver was both new to the Hemi and new to drag racing.;)
But as far as I was concerned....a victory is a victory. :B
