Remote controlled rear view camera installed

Got my camera all installed and can control the on/off from my cab remotely. Don't have to be in reverse or have headlights on for the camera to work. I came across this nifty wiring harness, with remote capability, when looking on the Web for ideas. It's here.

My camera display is my Garmin GPS. When I turn on the camera, the display automatically switches to the camera video. When I turn it off, the display goes back to GPS info.

I mounted the camera at the edge of my rear roof, on a small plastic block I glued to the aluminum roof. Ran the cable along the railing to the fridge vent. Down the vent and into the exterior fridge compartment. Also put the camera transmitter and remote wiring harness in the compartment and wired it to the 12vdc fridge terminal block. I did shorten the harness so it didn't take up so much room. So, no holes drilled at all and no wiring to the truck.

I needed an extension cable for the camera and they only come in 50 ft lengths. Consequently, I have a bunch of rolled up cable in the compartment that I wish I didn't. The cable is so small I'm not going to try and cut-and-splice it, though.

Almost ready to depart for my annual ramblin'. I'm looking forward to using my remote from the cab to see what's behind me. :)

  • Thanks for the 2 thumbs up and marker light tip. I hardly ever drive at night with my camper on, so shouldn't be a problem.
  • Amazing what you can see. I have a Furrion wireless. Works well for seeing the unseen. Actually better than the mirrors but I still use the mirrors. Great for backing, especially with a trailer on the back.

At night you may have some issues from the ambient light from your marker light near the cam. I took my marker light covers off (next to my cam) masked the front of the lenses off and painted the edges with a couple coats of red paint so they light from the edges don't interfere with the cam at night.
