We have an elongated U-shaped dinette that I actually kind of like. The leg space is a bit cramped, but it gives quite a bit of elbow room which I find the traditional dinettes lack. We've had up to 6 in ours (4 adults and 2 children), and that was the only time it's felt too tight.
We have also started looking at QB trailers since we are expecting our third child next year now. Of course we're looking to buy in the 3 years from now time frame.
Also, don't discount the truck so fast for the 4 of you. If you put a shell on the back with a window pass through it can be quite a nice place for the dogs in the back.
