Replace knobs that keep the drop down wall closed

Hi,

Has anyone replaced the knobs with rubber piece that turn to create tension that keep the drop down walls closed? My trailer is 1999 Fleetwood hybrid that has walls on both ends that drop down for queen size beds with tent material and poles are used on A frameand bumper to support the beds not cables like the newer versions.

Mine literally crumbled and I would like suggestions for a more secure latch to keep the drop down walls closed during trailer electric. Fleetwood doesn't make trailers anymore and doesn't have any of the parts to replace the original knob and rubber system.

  • While the older type latches can be had I would switch to the new bar type latch. They are readily available from the OEM: Fastec Industrial
Here is a pic from the catalog:
  • We had to replace one of our bunk decks this summer so at the same time we had the dealer replace the screw-down latches with the newer style "folding" latches that you see on the new campers. They were able to line up the new latches with the existing holes. If you are handy you probably could do this yourself, but it didn't cost much to have the dealer do it either. The reason I'm posting this is, the newer latches are SO much easier to use than the screw-down latches. Someday we hope to replace the screw-down latches on our other bunk also. If you have to replace them anyway it would be worthwhile to consider the newer style latches.
  • These are the ones that I bought, from the same seller in this listing.

    eBay Listing

Edit**** Sorry...Didn't realize I linked to a closed listing. Anyway, do an eBay search for "hybrid bunk clamp" and you should have plenty of options.
  • Hello everyone, I've been lurking for the better part of a week. Great site with a wealth of information! We just bought a 2002 Fleetwood Prowler Lynx 723C and I would like to replace the door screw clamps as well. kvangil, would you mind posting a link to the clamps you bought off of E-Bay? I did a search, but gave up after 6 pages in. Its all in the wording!

    Thank you,

    JB
  • If you are referring to the bunk-end screw clamps, you can find them on ebay for $10 each. I just did both my bunk-ends last month. When I got them, the screw pattern was opposite of the original holes on my camper. So in order to make then use the existing holes (I didn't want to drill new holes), I simply used pliers to bend the 90-degree "stopper" up so that the latch can swivel a full 360-degrees. Then it was as simple as unscrewing the old ones, cleaning the area, apply some sealant (e.g. Dicor), and screw the new ones in.
  • Sounds like you're talking about the bunk door screw clamps but pics are better than descriptions.
