Replace mattress or add topper

I believe that there are 2 things that you should NEVER cheap out on. Shoes and a Bed.

You spend all day walking in your shoes and all night sleeping in your bed. If you are walking in crappy shoes, it destroys your body. If you sleep in a crappy bed, you never recover.

Personally, I would splurge and get the best quality bed that you can. You will have a much better sleep and be able to enjoy your camping days even that much more.

We went to a Sleep Number mattress. Totally adjustable for any weight. Yeah, more expensive. But, we spend 1/4 to 1/3 of out life in bed so it is the least expensive purchase we ever made relative to time used.

I am 6' and 230 pounds. We put a 4" topper from walmart on and that was 7 years ago. Works great

Been there, done that and 6 ft 230 lb failed. Went to Sleepys and bought a queen size that had bamboo in it and is quite firm. It will go into a TT and beats those cheap ones thye put in them.

We shopped for a while and finally purchased a king size bed for the house. After 27 years of marriage we felt we finally deserved it. We loved the mattress so much, we replaced the one the camper with the exact same brand, style, and quality. At the time, this was our Springdale. When we bought our Outback, we were going to switch the mattress from the one in the Springdale with the one in our new Outback. But we never did, because (unbelievable) the mattress that came with the Outback was really a pretty darn good mattress!

We did keep the original mattress from the Springdale and put it back in when we sold it and keep the new mattress. We still have the mattress we use around the house as a spare (on the floor) when family comes home, or the wife and I get winter cabin fever, fire up the fireplace (real wood burning fireplace), put the mattress on the floor in front of it and sleep ohhhhh so good.

The point I'm making is, whatever mattress you are using in your home, get another one and put it in your camper! Yes, you can purchase just the mattress without having to buy the box spring. We have a Serta (full mattress, not queen) we purchased for our Dutchmen. So, actually we have 2 additional mattresses. We use one on the front porch in the summer now too.

My hubby weighs in at just short of 200 and is 6 feet tall. We put a 3 inch topper from Costco on top of the RV mattress (got it for $89 I think) and never looked back. He sleeps great and has no problems.

I replaced my cheap RV mattress with a Spa Sensations 8" Queen memory foam($219) from Walmart.com. Also bought a 6" twin for the bunk and easily trimmed to fit. I like the comfort so much, I'm going to replace my broken down king mattress in the home with a 12" memory foam. I think these are a great value.

well, look at it this way, it is cheaper to add a topper than a new mattress so I would go that route first. may or may not be the thing you need, if not get a new good mattress, the RV mattress's are like sleeping on the ground, and even a topper may not foot the bill for you. but we have both worlds and it is so nice to wake up with out a back ache.

We are both larger people. Tried the 4" topper and well the topper is now in the guest room and we have a memory foam in the camper. Should have saved the money on the topper and just bought the mattress. The original mattress was just worthless.

With the topper sheets kept slipping off and the topper tended to move. Memory foam mattress was the best option for us. Bought a 13" but a 10" probably would have been enough.

I used .. used old style sleeping bags under stock mattress and a Wal-Mart topper.
