. . . One thing I have noticed is that the Rams TBC seems to work a bit differently. I can't set it up like you normally would. However I have switched back and forth on occasion to try some ides. Anyway, when it's set on 5.5-6.5 gain on light electric and you slide the manual lever over it won't feel like you have much for braking. But if you're driving down the road and slam the brakes like you're in a panic stop they will lock up. So I don't know what type of braking parameters Ram is using, but they're not the same as Fords.
Although operationally it wouldn't make sense, I suppose it is possible applying maximum braking manually (with the Ram IBC slider full left and parameters set to "heavy electric" and gain of 10) may not allow maximum braking. However, maybe it is possible under "normal" braking conditions the system will allow additional current above the amount available for "manual" braking. Possible, but totally opposite from every single aftermarket brake controller I've ever used.
In any case, I'd feel uncomfortable just "hoping" this is true when I have to make my next emergency stop---that's the last place I'd want to test this hypothesis. I'd rather see it for myself using the manual slider.
I wonder if it is a safety feature they built in. Maybe they feel someone will just grab a handful of manual brake and lock up the trailer creating an unsafe situation. Counter intuitive but who knows when you get the legal department involved in the design.
