replace speakers??

We have the cheap speakers in the ceiling. Can those be replaced with better speakers? Do they make better ones that would fit the same way? These are the small white ones...

  • I went with Polk also but bought 5.25 instead of 6.5". Fits but barely covers holes. They do sit flush. Best thing to do is put in an amp. That will improve sound while pushing the better speakers. Low cost 25watt/ch x4 amp will do the trick.
  • my speakers are the little cube speakers...I would have to cut the ceiling...any better cube ones?
  • I replaced my ceiling and external speakers with Rockford car audio speakers inside and marine speakers outside. Sounds soooo much better!
  • I replaced my crappy ceiling speakers with Polk Audio
Mine are 5.25in size. Was quick and easy to do. Improved the sound 200%.
  • There are a lot of options out there for better speakers, but it seems car audio sizes and what the RV builders use are two different things.

I upgraded my trailer's speakers to some Pioneer 6" two-way. Despite the stock speakers were also six in, the Pioneer do not fit perfect in the hole in the ceiling.

First off, the Pioneer have real magnets on them, not a fridge magnet like the factory, so they're several inches deeper. Secondly, the Pioneer use a heavy steel frame to support the cone and magnet, which prevents the speaker fitting flush into the hole.

One of these days I need to cut spacers from some balsa wood or something, to fill the 1/4" gap between the speaker's bezel and the ceiling in the RV.

Oh heck, I'll throw in some pictures too:

I added some thump to my trailer (reliving the missed opportunity of youth to have a big stereo in my high school ride.)

  • They sure do make better speakers. Check out Polk Audio.
