Though it would be difficult, but 'could' happen, maybe, but I've always looked at the locks more to ensure the fastguns don't become disengaged, and or one step to ensure I have closed. Suppose a lynch pin would work to that end. Our step also uses the pin locks.
All our caps the lanyard have broke, finally misplaced? one of the caps. I hadn't pursued because, one, I couldn't find source but also assumed new one would also break.
I put lanyards on the locks themselves, never thought about making for the caps.
