Replacing a roof...

We have a Springdale 296BHSSR. A limb fell on the front corner of the slideout and another limb dented the roof just beside the a/c unit right above the entrance door. The slide out damage is enough that it leaked. But the other ding is just an impression.

The insurance adjuster just left and since we don't have a lein on the TT a check was written to us to get the roof replaced. The check amount is so high that I am here now asking "how much does a new roof cost!!!". I know some of you have replaced the roof on your TT yourself and I don't recall anyone talking about high prices.

Can anyone shed some light on this cost for me? DIY and at the shop prices, from experience.

Thanks,
Cheryl
  • I had to get a roof membrane replaced a couple of years ago. There was no underlying damage to the decking. Materials were about $1,500 and labor was about $3,500. 28'box length on the TT.
  • Your link is basically what we are talking about...but, I think the price they are quoting is just the material cost...does not include the huge labor cost, also other materials like sealant, under layment if needed, etc.
  • Another question.... isn't this basically what we are talking about? I realize labor is the major cost.

  • I just never imagined that a membrane roof would cost that much. Mercy!
  • don't cash the check, go straight to your dealer. get a quote... if it costs more... have the dealer bill the insurance Co. You pay the premiums... the rig gets fixed.

GMAC did this with my moms 4winds. they cut her a check, thinking she would shop around for estimates. By law, you can take it to any repair shop. as long as they use industry practices to bid the work. Insurance must pay.

If you are close enough to the manufacturer.. take it there.
  • Don't cash that check till you get a real world est from a RV dealer.
Reguardless of how nice the adjuster may have been he works for the INSURANCE CO. and not you. Beware.
    Good Luck, Mike
  • Rough guess not know how much underlying damage there is...for a 30 footer and slide roof...$5000 - $6000. Maybe even more.
