I heard all new diesel engines require some kind of additive and that the manufacturers have to include some sort of gizmo that sprays it into the cylinders for compliance with the EPA. I'd like to know a little more about this slight inconvenience and whether or not its true. Thanks.
DEF is an after treatment, it is not sprayed into the cylinders rather the exhaust. All DEF is used downstream of the engine. The cost is trivial on a per mile basis and DEF is available most anywhere diesel is sold, truck stops, NAPA, WallMart, etc.
