Many thanks for the help guys. I'll have a more detailed look at your responses tomorrow.
My plan is to do what we have done in Europe and North Africa - that is to research decent camp grounds around our intended route, then program them into our GPS. That way when we get to the point in the day where we need to start thinking about a campground the GPS will show us the nearest ones we have programmed in, and we know from having researched them in advance they will be the sort of places we want to stay.
Hi Mike. Here is a rough route, but I am happy to change this to take in things to see:
Denver - 285 SW then 17 to Great Sand Dunes.
Then probably 160/159/522 down to Santa Fe.
Then south to Alamogordo and White Sands.
Then probably I10 to Tucson.
Then north to Expo via Tonto NM.
Then 40 / 191 to Canyon de Chelly
160 to Mesa Verde then on through Durango
Maybe Black Canyon of the Gunnison NM
Possibly then onto Rocky Mountain NP, maybe stopping off at Aspen on the way.
At what points we will stop on route and camp I shall leave until we are travelling - as I said above we'll see where we get to on that rough route each evening and find an appropriate place to camp then.
Steve.
