I was just told it is illegal to spend the night in your camper in a rest area in Tennessee. Can anyone verify this? If this is indeed true, does it apply to other state's rest areas? How does on...

Truckers, just like RVers. There are bad ones and there are good ones. You can not lump them all together in one big group. If you feel safe at a RA then stay, if you don't then go to WM or CG. You just have to use a little common sense, not roll out the carpet, chairs grills, etc. Get a few hrs sleep and move on down the road.
Yes there are people here that have been ask to leave by LEO or security, but I'm sure they are in the minority. Most have not and will note ask to leave. More people need to take a personal responsibility, for their own well being. No, I'm not saying take the law into their own hands, but if an area does not feel safe then move on.
