- steve68steveExplorerThis is driving me insane, too. On my 2001 F350 I have button to turn it off, but it only 'lasts' until I shift out of reverse. So if I have to jockey around backing up and pulling forward, I have to push the button each time I shift into R.
Unbelievable.
I bet the plow guys who carry a salt spreader on the back must love this 'feature'. - iwon415ExplorerMy 2006 Ford does the same thing. I have learned to just flick it off, barely think about it. I don't mind that it out goes off, cause it reminds me that I am about to undertake one of the most dangerous acts while driving. Backing up. Cause of most accidents while driving a big rig. Reminds me to take it slow and be extra cautious.

Okay, pressing a button each time it fires off may be an option, but it's not a latch function, so will fire off each time the ignition is started and then reverse is engaged. What fuse do I pull to permanently shut it off? Since it's an option, it does not show up on the fuse list in the manual.

It is fuse F2.27, but as said before that fuse also powers a multitude of other things like Electronic shift on the fly,and brake shift interlock among many others. You might try unplugging the switch on the dash, although I think you have to remove the face of the dash to do this,if memory serves me I don't think you can get your hand back there. - jimh406Explorer III

It's actually not that big of a deal for me. I hit the button "if" I'm going to backup, and it stay off until I shut off the truck. You could always put your own switch in if you wanted to. - that just blows my mind that it can't be shut off....
- _DJ_1Explorer IIIt is on a fuse. Problem is, it is also the same fuse that is important like turn signals IIRC.
I am pretty lazy and figure out the easiest way to do something. I bought one of these. It emulates a trailer with electric brakes plugged into your truck. That kills the alarm. Because folks with TT's don't want to hear it either.
Now the camper overhang or towing my boat on the flat 4 connection no longer set off the alarm. When I don't need it, I just unplug it and toss it in the glove box and my alarm again functions as normal, which is a very good thing when DW drives!!!!.
No need to crawl around under your truck looking for wires or connectors to disable.
BTW, the tape trick did not work on my 2011. - RaftenExplorerWhile you are under the bumper splice in a in line fuse so you can disable when you want. Or better yet, splice in a switch.
- dgcarlsonExplorerThanks, buzzcut for the alternate forum postings. Since my program already works as described, I guess my only choice is to climb under the rear bumper and disconnect the harness itself.
Strange that there's not a particular fuse involved in the circuit.
