Speaking of warranties, I'll hyjack my own thread here for just a moment;
I bought a memory foam mattress from Costco 7 years ago. For the past year, the foam has been slowly failing to spring back, causing a 'divot' where I lay. I finally decided to replace the mattress and began my on-line research. I discovered that my mattress that I bought 7 years ago has a 10 year warranty. I called Costco and they confirmed that I bought my mattress from them 7 years ago and that it's still within warranty. They told me to bring it in and they would give me a full refund. Today I did just that and got my refund and bought a new mattress from them at the same time.
I've also bought my truck batteries from them some time ago. They had 100 month warranty on them. That's over 8 years! I've replaced both batteries at a little over 3 years twice now. All they required was I bring in the old batteries, they give me a full refund and I purchase the new batteries.
It's hard to beat a Costco warranty for a product. Service is a consideration as pointed out and that's where an outfit like Les Schwab shines. However, if I've been able to save $100's of dollars buying tires someplace else, and have to pay Les Schwab for a service that I might never need to begin with, I'd still think I would be money ahead.
