Speaking of warranties, I'll hyjack my own thread here for just a moment;
I bought a memory foam mattress from Costco 7 years ago. For the past year, the foam has been slowly failing to spring back, causing a 'divot' where I lay. I finally decided to replace the mattress and began my on-line research. I discovered that my mattress that I bought 7 years ago has a 10 year warranty. I called Costco and they confirmed that I bought my mattress from them 7 years ago and that it's still within warranty. They told me to bring it in and they would give me a full refund. Today I did just that and got my refund and bought a new mattress from them at the same time.
I've also bought my truck batteries from them some time ago. They had 100 month warranty on them. That's over 8 years! I've replaced both batteries at a little over 3 years twice now. All they required was I bring in the old batteries, they give me a full refund and I purchase the new batteries.
It's hard to beat a Costco warranty for a product. Service is a consideration as pointed out and that's where an outfit like Les Schwab shines. However, if I've been able to save $100's of dollars buying tires someplace else, and have to pay Les Schwab for a service that I might never need to begin with, I'd still think I would be money ahead.
Agreed, Costco does provide great warranty service.
I will never purchase another tire from Costco though.
A few years back I purchased 4 new 16's for my Truck..... Mounted and balanced and away I went... In about 5 mi and above 45 mi per hr the steering wheel started shaking.... I returned to Costco... Told the tech there that the truck was shaking and the steering wheel was almost so bad I could not control the truck....
They removed the front wheels and I stood and watched..There was so many weights on one wheel I nearly puked.. The wheel was wobbling on the balancer... Tech/mgr comes over and tells me the rim is bent.... WTF! I told them that was impossible.... They got hot under the collar.... Another mgr came in about that time and got involved.... He looked at the issue and said that the techs were using the wrong hub for my rims. on the balancer.. I was so dismayed, I asked them to put my old tires back on, refund me my $ and I would go elsewhere...
That is after another occurrence of trouble with them mounting another set of tires on another vehicle and stripping the lug nut threads/nuts on 2 out of 4 wheels... Torque settings on this vehicle was 45ft lbs. I even told them to be careful...
Caught that because when I get home after getting new tires I always re-torque...my lug nuts. If I can not get a slight turn on the nut I loosen slightly and tighten. You know the rest of that story don't you... They replaces 3 or 4 of the studs and nuts..... I did give them the benefit of the doubt on the truck.... Now I will not deal with Costco's tire center ever again.
Just so you know.
I bought my Vision rims and tires from LS.
