Same as you would not stop at Home Depot and expect to get groceries.
I can pull into any gas station to fill up, I don't have to plan for the next Shell station. VW's system will be open to everyone but If I pull into a VW charging facility and have to wait behind a Tesla and a Rivan to charge my Audi when I can't use their facilities, well I'm not interested in that stupidity. I'll stick with gas or a PHEV until the EV folks get their act together and make it work for everyone.
