Roadside service

Hello, Was wondering which is better for road service, Coach Net or Good Sam ? I had Coach net when I had the MH and now that I have down sized to the TT was wondering if I can get the same service for less money going with Good Sam. Never had to Use Coach Net so can't rate their service either.
  • I have had Coach-Net for my 5th wheel for many years. But like you, have never had to use it. There are frequent complaints about Good Sam service posted on the Good Sam Roadside Assistsnce Forum here. But then, that forum is here specifically for those comments. And the percentage of complaints to the total members is probably fairly small. Coach-Net complaints are few and far between here, but again this is a Good Sam site.

The Coach-Net rate for towables is less than for motorhomes.
  • This is pretty much at least a weekly subject, probably more often than that. If you do a search, you'll find gobs of replies. Personally, I would rate them pretty much equal as they both use the same service companies in the different locations.

  • I had an opportunity to use Good Sam road service about three years ago with a previous trailer and they came through like champs. Received fast and competent service.
  • I've had RV Roadhelp for years. First time I used it on a July 3rd (2008?) when I had a leaf spring break (on I-26 in Columbia SC). After 30 minutes on the phone, the lady said she couldn't find a tow, so I should find one and send in the receipt. I called the Camping World nearby and asked who to call - they gave me someone's number. He said he just put the boat in the lake, but would get there ASAP. About 45 minutes later he showed up - he jacked up the trailer and put wood blocks and straps in place so I could tow it, and he followed me back to CW. $175 - and they did reimburse in full promptly.
Since then they were taken over by Allstate, and next time was much better service. 5 years ago I had my fuel pump die in Florida. I first was online with someone in who knows where country. She kept asking for my exact location - I kept saying Highway 301 about 3 miles south of I-10. She kept wanting to know street signs, etc. (I'm sure she had a computer screen with all those questions). After a few minutes, she said someone would call me back. Within 5 minutes someone did - from this country. She had two tow trucks dispatched - one to take the TV (and my wife, 12 y/o son, and 9 y/o daughter) to a car dealer in Jacksonville (30 miles away), the second to take the trailer (and me and my 14 y/o son) to the same place. Those tows were paid for, so I didn't have to worry about sending in receipts.
  • I've using CN for about 8 yrs. Used it 3x towing a trailer and all was fine. CN covers you and any vehicle you are in, as a passenger too . My DW can also use it under one policy.

I would pick the less expensive service and a service with no restrictions regarding how many times a year it can be used.
Make sure you're covered for any vehicle your in.
  • I have Good Sam and, thankfully, haven't needed them yet.
The main reason I have Roadside Assist and Travel Assist with GS is that I use their credit card (Visa) and accumulate enough reward points to pay for my GS membership, roadside and travel assist and subscriptions to Trailer Life and Motorhome magazines. I haven't spent a dime on any of that in years.
    Jus' sayin.'
  • Thx for all the replies, my roadside service policy expires next month so I have a lot of thinking and information gathering to do.

  • Has anyone used AAA and what are there thoughts on it. We have it but have never used the RV part of it
  • We have AAA RV+. Only used it once, locked myself out of the camper. They responded quickly and opened the door. Main reason we went with AAA is DW travels extensively around the country and rents cars at her destination. AAA covers the rentals too which she used in SoCal after locking herself out.

My brother has a DP, winters in Yuma and summers in Fairbanks. He has Coachnet and can't say enough good things about them. They've towed him in twice that I know of. Once somewhere in Wyoming and another time in the middle of nowhere on the AlKan.
  • I have used GS a few times and received excellent service each time.
