Rocker panel replacement

Talked to a body shop today about replacing the rocker panels on my 03 Silverado and was informed it is a big job and would cost 5-7,000 dollars ! I looked online and I see why. The doors and box have to come off and there is an outer, intermediate and inner panel. I guess I will let it rust until I can buy a different truck.
  • That price is probably for the whole door frame with rocker panels. Look at LMC Trucks as they have replacement rocker panels and cab corners. You can cut out the old with a plasma cutter and weld in replacements and just paint with bedliner material. Unfortunately you will have more rust issues with this vintage GM truck. I speak from experience. Rear bumper rusting through, brake lines rusting, rear shackles, brake bleeders, trans linkage and lines are some of the issues I dealt with on a 2000. Final straw was frame rusting out at the support for the carrier bearing and the universals and driveshaft rusting. I have seen many of these trucks of this generation with some of this issues. You must decide if it is worth the effort.

  • I'd say thats a "I dont want to fix it" price.
Rust is tough to give an estimate, you just never know how much of it you have until you start cutting.
  • Used to be able to buy chrome rocker panel covers to hide the rust. Maybe they are still available. I put them on my old car when I was in my teens.
