Rockwood Roo 23ss fiberglass sides

This is our 2nd year since we purchased out 2009 Rockwood Roo 23ss. We have yet to get out and camp this year. My husband noticed that there was a bulge on the fiberglass side of the trailer. And today we noticed another small one by one of the bed ends. What could be causing this, and how would it be fixed? Are these panels glued on and the siding is pulling away? We checked for any water leakage inside and saw nothing. Could you please help? Thanks.

Where'd Chuck S. go he had a Roo 23SS and seemed to know a lot about them. Haven't seen a post from him in quite a while. If he's still around I'm sure he could do you some good.

He must've just missed this post- his sig still shows the Roo, and he posted in the thread at this link just a week ago.
  • I haven't seen Chuck on any of the forums. Did he go to the darkside? He had a 2006 Roo 23ss.

I don't think it is by the doors. The camper beds just got opened up, so that part would be hard to photograph (underneath). The other spot is towards the bottom of the kitchen slide out. I can't see any water damage, but there is a slight soft spot between the the corner of the kitchen sink and the spice cabinet. I will try to take pictures tomorrow. Thanks.

you may have a leak in the slideout roof, that's traveling down to the bottom of the slideout. easy to happen if you didn't have a slidetopper installed. if debris isn't cleaned off before closing the slideout, it can get trapped and tear the rubber roof.
that's a big reason we had a slidetopper installed on our 23SS, since the slideout is 12' long.
  • After looking at the caulking underneath the bed end, it looks like it needs some new caulk (pulling away, cracked). Any specific caulk to use? I will check the other posts too.Thanks.

  • sounds like delam but providing pics would help a lot.

the bottom of the bunk doors, where the hinge attaches, sometimes wicks water that has been pooling in the hinge area.
the bunk doors, along with the trailer sides, are made of luan. it's a sandwich construction that has wood in it, which can wick water inside of it.

the side of your trailer is a bigger problem than the bunk door.
  • There are several discussions on delamination. You could search that out and I'm sure you will find an answer along with a solution.
  • My feeling is that you have a moisture/water issue somewhere in those areas. We had a couple of very small areas on the front bunkend of our 23SS. Since it was undercover 24/7, we weren't over concerned about it and generally don't camp with the weather is nasty anyway. Suggest you do a THOROUGH search in those areas. If it's near a place where 2 pieces or trims come together, get some RV caulk, remove the trim pieces or whatever and recaulk. Then just be aware and don't leave sleep over it. Check periodically.
