Certain Forest River reps have went as far as telling owners who have had tank issues that their trailer was not built to be moved with water in the tank. They have claimed that the small yellow sticker that tells you "this trailer holds x amount of water which weighs X pounds and this weight needs to be deducted from cargo capacity" as being there to inform the owner they should not be traveling with water in the tank. IMO borderline deception or false advertising.
Travel trailers with which you can't travel with water on board.....go figure.
Here is what the 2018 Coachmen TT owner's manual has to say:Traveling With Water
When traveling, you may want to drain the tank or keep
the quantity of water to a minimum. This will reduce the
total weight of the RV for travel. The location of the fresh
water and the waste water tank drain valve will vary from
RV to RV but is generally located beneath the RV near
the respective tank.
Water in the tank can be drained by turning the drain
**** perpendicular (vertically) to the RV body. To close
the valve, turn the lever parallel (horizontally) to the RV
body.
That's it. Not a word about not traveling with water.
And the Rockwood manuals also say not a word about traveling with water. However, some Forest River factory reps have said otherwise to owners whose water tank supports deflected, or the tank ended up on the road, and in writing. I have seen the emails.
If I've learned one thing about the RV Industry it's if you have an issue under warranty you had better go into it locked and loaded......8 out of 10 times they'll go out of their way in an attempt to weasel out of it. When my tank supports deflected on the way home from taking possession, Rockwood referred me to Lippert under the frame warranty. Well that was a waste of effort and time. They wanted me to drop off a new, never used camper to the dealer and one of their techs would address the problem "when they were in the area". No timeframe would be given, just we'll get to it when we can. Screw that.
