Roll Up Tonneau Cover Suggestions

I just ordered my new tv which is a 2016 ram 3500 8' bed srw. Anyway im looking to make a list of things ill need/want for it and the tonneau cover is one of them.

Im looking at strickly the roll up (bars built in) ones as this wont just be pulling a camper. I will be using it to haul firewood and other things and will need full access to the bed.

I found a couple different brands, (looked on autoanything) truxedo I think being the most popular. They varry in price from $250 to about $800. At the end of the day I just need it to work and last and was wondering what people out there had. The $250 one is looking good with a tailgate seal and cleaner but if its life span is only two years its just not worth it.

Can you all let me know which brand and model you have along with how its holding up and if you're happy with it and why.

Thanks!

  • I ran a Truxedo on my old truck for 6 years and it looked great the day I sold it. I bought the exact same one and am two years in on the new truck and it's perfect.
  • I had a Truxedo Truxport on my last truck for seven years. The velcro was starting to get weak but other than that it was a great cover. I have a Truxedo Lopro on my new truck and really like it, it sits between the bed rails instead of on top. I sometimes carry kayaks on a rack that fits into my bed posts, this cover allows me to keep the bed covered with the rack on. The Truxport sat on top of the bed rails and I had to remove it when carrying the yaks.

Extang Tuff Tonneau. It is 10+ years old and wasn't an expensive cover then. I did have to replace the cover once but it was replaced at no cost by Extang under warranty. Great service.
  • I had a Roll N Lock on my last truck and it was OK but it leaked quite a bit in the rain and the vinyl was starting to get "bars" in it where the slats were underneath and I could not remove them. It also had to be disengaged to open the tailgate which was a PITA.

I have a Retrax on my current truck and it is fantastic. It is much easier to operate than the Roll N Lock, is more weather resistant and looks great. The tailgate can also be opened with the cover closed which I also really like. Like a previous poster said they are pricey but well worth it.
  • I don't have a tonneau cover per say, I have a Softtopper for the last t years.

Softtopper is a fabric cap stretched over a folding Aluminum frame.
