RollingRock's F250 scared me on last trip

Well,

It finally happened to me. I was pulling to Paris Texas for an archery event and boom the intercooler boot let go and left me stranded on the highway. A few lessons learned from this. Breaking down in a Thunderstorm is BAD....breaking down in a Thunderstorm on a 2 lane highway SUCKS. Once the rain let up I jumped up on the engine and realized that the hose camp popped off so i was able to grab some basic tools in the truck and get it back on. But it let go again about 5 miles down the road. A buddy was nearby and brought me a new clamp and we got it put on and again 5 miles or so, it let go again. I was able limp to Paris, about 15 miles to the Ford shop. They came out to the highway to look at the truck. Turns out I wasn't getting it tight enough and that the intercooler intake was a little polished so they got some sand paper out and went after it.

Then they got it all put back together and torqued to the right specs and off we went.

So if you get a new intercooler boot kit, make sure you get new clamps too. Don't use the old ones. Secondly, major shout out to the dealership in Paris Texas. They didn't charge me a dime for the fix.

So the ol gal is back on the road kicking again.

It's been awhile since I posted so I hope all is well here at RV.net.

Replace the boot. I too had this exact same problem and the boots just stretch over time. It shouldn't have needed hitting with sandpaper. It didnt come that way. It will do it again, it's just a matter of time.

Yup, new boot and clamps, no charge for install...the trick on these boots, especially the top side, is the angle. When boost is applied they move, and on the old camp, there was a little wiggle at the camp and it polished it over time, that is why they hit the intercooler with a little sand paper.
