Running Fridge while traveling

Mine has never exploded, on the road or at rest.
Seriously, though, lots of people worry about fire when refueling.
I'm not one of them.

If you want your food to stay cold, you'll run it on propane, which needs the DC current to start and stop it. It won't run any other way. Its made to do that.Most can be set to switch over to the best fuel source so will switch to electric when plugged in.

30yrs rv,ng run on propane ,AND I all ways turn it off before entering a gas station, you just never know what a little spark can cause.

Its perfectly safe, we always have frig running off propane gas while on the road. but I was told if your traveling thru a tunnel your suppose to turn off the tanks..

Mines always on propane when driving. Has been for the last 13 years.

For `normal' days traveling my Wife puts cold packs in the refer to help keep it cold underway. If it is really hot, eg. 90 degrees, we run it on propane.
That used to bother me but I have never read about a fire on this Forum which seems to cover every possible problem out there.

And yes, my guess is that most people run them while going down the road. NOT doing that would greatly reduce the usefulness.

This a discussion that keeps coming up a lot.

In the old days the fridges used to be three way. LP, A/C and 12V, now for some reason the fridges are only two way LP and A/C power. Why they dropped the 12V I have no idea as we used to travel with the fridge on 12 volt with no problems at all.

Now we do travel with the fridge on propane, but when fueling we always shut the fridge off. If you are in a gas station and the fridge lights up, if there was enough vapour at the fridge venting it could spark a fire.

My train of thought is the fridge does not know if you are driving down the road or sitting in a campsite with a 60MPH wind blowing over the vents of the fridge.

Many of the newer RVs come equipped with an inverter to provide AC power. When traveling, we use the inverter to run the AC fridge off the 12 volts. Why use propane when AC is available with the flip of a switch? Since Class A motorhomes now come on Ford chassis, the alternator is a 175 amp. More than enough to easily supply an inverter while rolling down the road.
