running fridge

I believe that I have read almost all the posts on running your fridge on gas while you're traveling, so I don't want to touch that one:). What I do wonder is in reading other general posts, I read a lot about making sure to level the TT so the fridge will run OK, so...

question - how important is it? if running up and down 8% grades isn't going to do any harm (assumption on my part) how important is it really to have the fridge level. I know that all of you don't unhook the power to the fridge when you go up hills, so if you will drive for 8 hours a day, going up and down hills, doesn't that harm the fridge?

just trying to understand this a little better:h

  • It is no problem going down the road. The constant rocking takes care of the gas mixture.
  • The point is that the ammonia mixture in the cooling unit needs a level playing field to circulate properly (heated and cooled over and over)when sitting still. While moving, the jostling takes care of keeping the mixture from settling so that is why while moving level is not important, while still, level is important.
  • Just needs to be close to level at the campsite. If the leveling of your TT is comfortable for you to stay in then it is ok for the fridge. Driving, up and down hills etc, doesn't do anything to hurt the fridge.
  • Have no clue what the reason is, but it is right. It may be that the Freon or whatever needs to stabilize for a longer period when the vehicle is not moving. DH may stretch it to being off maybe 1/2 a bubble at most, but if more help is needed he pulls out the Lynx. Interesting to know the whole reason...hope someone knows.
