Running the AC on non-level driveway

Can I plug my TC into shore power and run my air conditioner while parked on my un-level driveway or does the air conditioner need to be level like the refrigerator? Driveway is on a 4.5 degree slope.

The only problem I can imagine is that the drain for the AC condensation might only be in one or two particular locations on the AC pan that needs level for proper drainage.

I can't find any answers on the Internet so I turn to you!

Thanks,

Mr. E

I see air conditioners mounted at fairly steep angles on 5th wheel rooftops all the time, so I doubt level is a concern.
  • I understand the fridge and slide out parameters, just asking about the air conditioner.......

As I thought, it is OK to run the AC off level.

    Thanks!

Be a lot more concern about your absorption refrigerator being level than worrying about your AC unit being not level. Several of us forum members are in the AC business and the RV AC units can be off level a lot. Just take a look at some of the 5th wheels and how they mount the roof top units.
  • Hi,

Go ahead and run the A/C, it is fine. If it starts to leak, then level it up on blocks of 2X10" boards. I have a set of 4 layer boards, the top being 9.5" and each below it 4.5" longer and the front side cut at 45 degrees. I also carry a 2 level ramp, because it is not always that off-level. And a long board, so that if I need to raise the right side say 3 levels in the front and 4 levels in the back, I might also need to raise the front left 1 level. Yes it has happened.

When I start needing ramps on all 4 tires - I know that the wife is messing with me. . .

I even have leveling jacks, so the ramps are only used in extreme off level campsites, usually the ones still empty on a Friday night, or have a great view, such as looking over a cliff or something!

does the air conditioner need to be level like the refrigerator...NO
  • I think it is going to be fine, but it is easy enough to pull onto a block of wood or 2-3. If you don't have anything with you, you probably can get remnants at the local lumber yard.
  • Fridge needs to be level when running to prevent damage (due to gravity flow cycle of coolant) and slide outs to prevent strain on motor/mechanism

water heaters, furnaces, A/C units.....turn them on

A/C evap drip pan MAY not properly drain if A/C unit is really tilted towards the rear....depends on where drain holes are.
