RV Direct & MSRP's!

I've noticed multiple "Happy Campers" mention RV Direct as a source for pricing...So I took a gander to see what the MSRP would be on the Jayco Jayflight 23MBH I'm interested in...

I found something rather confusing...What's the reasoning behind this? I have an idea but want others opinions...

I input these items...On top of the Base MSRP of $19,666

Customer Convenience Pkg which is Mandatory
Elite Pkg
32" LED TV
Thermal Pkg (Enclosed/Heated Underbelly)

The MSRP comes to $23,452

I then find this EXACT same trailer on multiple sites and they indicate a MSRP of upwards of $28,500

Where is the $5,000 difference coming from? Is this justifiable or could it be used in the starting price during negotiating?

  • Take a look at the Winnie site, they post their MSRP in the RV's description. No cheating by dealers there.
  • On RV's, "MSRP" has little to nothing to do with manufacturers. Those advertised MSRP's are set by the individual dealers (pronounced stealers). The prices are based on actual dealer cost, shipping costs, and individual dealer mark up. Some dealers, may have lower cost from the manufacturer, due to high volume sales, some have higher overhead costs, and some just have a higher level of greed.

That is why you can see two RV's, the same (make/model/options) in every way, at two different dealers, even in the same city, with two different MSRP's.
  • Jayco's website will let you build the camper as well and show you the msrp. Those options on their website show $27,156 for me.

Check the same rig on rvwholesalers.com, another good company and competitor to RVdirect. I suspect the online MSRP calculators these companies use is no 100% accurate.
  • The real issue is the actual MSRP is not published. The RV industry does not have the same regulatory oversight the Auto industry has. Any dealer including RV Direct can claim any number they choose and say it is the MSRP and you have no way to verify. Also keep in mind that transportation cost to the destination is always included and can vary widely.
  • I don't know what you are looking at but the MSRP is determined by the manufacturer, not the dealer. The dealer can sell for any price they choose.
  • AFAIK a dealer can have a window sticker with about any price he wants. gives him room to make a $5,500 discount.
