Well I went to Funtown for service on my travel trailer. I was not impressed at all. I did not make an appointment and of course I didn't expect to have my problem addressed immediately, but I didn't expect to have to beg the service guy to come out to my tt just to let me explain the issue so I could leave it. He was initially rude though I will admit that after I convinced him to at least walk out to the tt to look at it he did seem ok. Things were going pretty well till he got it written up and proceeded to tell me that it would be 4-5 weeks before they "LOOK" at it. That doesn't include getting approval for the warranty work, ordering parts if needed, etc.
The issue to me at least is minor and he did seem to indicate that they might at least look at it within two weeks after further discussion about the timing and the fact that I'm planning a weekend trip in two weeks. He said they might be able to at least look at it and then I can pick it up for use while they do the parts ordering etc.
Since I am in the market for a new tt, I did discuss the issue with my salesman(same that sold me the tt being serviced) and he said he would contact the service manager on my behalf.
Bottom line is if they can't give me reasonable service on this unit, I won't buy another from them. I did find that RV-Max down the road is also a Forest River dealer. They told me that they can do warranty work on the unit and that I should expect 1-2 days to assess the issue or I can set an appointment and then of course they have to deal with Forest River for warranty approval, parts etc at that point.
And the saga continues.
On Monday, I decided to go pickup the trailer since I needed to get it ready for a trip this coming weekend and Funtown still hadn't even looked at it.
On Tuesday, I take the other wheel off that I hadn't previously replaced as well as the spare and take them to NTB to be replaced. I didn't trust the old tires even for a moment and I'm glad I did. When I got the other tire off it was worse than the one I had previously replaced.
NTB told me they had never seen tires this bad and couldn't imagine what had caused it though one of their employees did ask me how heavy the trailer was because the tire was only rated to 1760 lbs. My Wildwood X-Lite is pretty light so I thought well it must be close, but my assumption was that it must be within specs.
When I got home and got the wheel back on the trailer I took a look at the weight sticker on the trailer. Damn. The tires were not only not the correct ones, but the wheels weren't even the right size. The trailer was delivered with 14" wheels and tires instead of the 15" that the mfg spec'ed on the sticker. And the gross weight of the trailer is 3901 while the 2 tires are rated at 1760 x 2 --> 3520. No wonder the tires failed. I didn't have the trailer overloaded on my trip to Wyoming and Colorado but it was close to gross and I towed it at highway speeds as well as over many mountain passes, dirt roads, etc.
Scary to think what could have happened.
I spoke to Raul, the general manager of Funtown last night. He asked that I provide him with pics and copies of my receipts etc so that he can take the appropriate action with the mfg to get this remedied.
I'll follow up after he resolves this and let everyone know how it went.
