You said that you tested the grill with the included regulator and a 20# tank and that it worked fine. Have you tested the grill with the included regulator and the camper outlet propane? If the outlet propane is fed direct from the camper bottle and not through a regulator then the grill should work fine with the included regulator.
On my trailer the outlet is low pressure so I don't use the included regulator with my grill. I do use the regulator if I put the grill over on a picnic table and use a 1# propane bottle.
As someone mentioned you don't want 2 regulators in series feeding the grill.
