Rv Show

My DW fell in love with the Flagstaff 27rlws at the rv show last weekend. I liked the floor plan too but as I was looking under it I noticed it had Torflex axles. Also, it felt like a welded 3 piece I-beam frame. I'm really leary of the frame, but don't know anything about the Torflex axles. Are the better, worse? Any thoughts?
  • Most stock trailers have Torflex and they don't seem to be a problem. We have one and cary up to 6000 lb on ours and it is a steel trailer.
  • Our previous trailer (Jayco JayFeather LGT 29N) had torsion axles, and we liked them. Fewer parts than conventional suspension - not as much to wear, break, or come loose. They seemed to give a nice ride. They let the trailer sit low to the ground meant only one step to up into it, and probably added to good aerodynamics. Downside was it was difficult to work underneath, and had to watch out for steep driveways.

What I would be more concerned about are the 14" Load Range C tires, which I would consider marginal for that weight trailer. As far as I know there are only two manufacturers of 14" Load Range D tires - Kuhmo and Kenda - so upgrade options are limited.

I would get the dealer to upgrade the tires to Load Range D Tires(65psi) and wheels to take the higher pressure (if the existing wheels aren't rated high enough)
  • I'm not sure why the axles would be a deal breaker. I have them on my trailer and they have never given me any issues. They are supposed to give a better ride with less bounce keeping loose items from moving around.
