Mine also went off installing the pink stuff last fall but there have been other smells that set it off also. I read on one of the forums that the detector gets crudded up after a while and then becomes very sensitive. A solution was to blow hot air with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes on the detector - Seemed to work for me on a couple occasions. However, if the CO detector goes off I'm not comfortable staying inside the camper or even at home so I always have a second CO detector available for backup.

You have a CO (carbon monoxide) detector.

Mine was a battery unit, and I got tired of changing batteries each year. Then I bought the Kidde model with the ten year lithium ion battery. So far so good at more than a year.

Mine went off after doing some general cleaning--not involving the device and only using Simple Green. Who knows why? Mine is new.

X2 they are hard wired in and have a built in alarm for low voltage and it is very sensitive.

Funny why does the alarm always start sounding off at 2 or 3 in the morning!!!?

Almost no smoke/gas/CO detector is good for more then just a few years. Some of the newest models come with batteries good for several years, when the battery dies, replace the unit.
Why they die is the detector (or ionizer) simply wears out.
