Like said earlier, I'd probably put the wife in the front middle. Unless one of the oldest kids is larger than the wife.
The five-point harness car seats restrain the upper body. The straps go over the shoulders and attach to another strap that goes between the legs. But the seat needs to be properly installed in the vehicle and that's what I'm not sure about . . . if one can be properly installed in the front middle seat.
