Safety in popup for single woman?

First off...as a single woman traveling alone, one cannot be too careful...

That said, after reading your post, within 2 minutes here's what I found out. This is not to alarm you, only to educate you....

1. Your full name.
2. Your phone number.
3. Your home address in Nebraska
4. Your picture.
5 Your age.

Traveling in a pop up is no different than protecting your own identity on the internet.....I would look for an Aliner. Easy set up and more secure. Then I would also consider a dog as a companion.....good luck....Dennis

If you want hard-sided, and a lower-profile trailer to tow, then Aliners and TrailManors are good options. Both are hard-sided, and both are easy to set up. Both are also lightweight, so tow very easily.

I have a TrailManor 2417, which is the smallest trailer they still make. More room inside than an Aliner, since beds pull-out from each end. Also, you can get floorplans without the second bed, having a dinette or couch in its place.

I don't know..these days.... I think I would be more tempted to get a VW camper van or something along those lines..That or bring Smith and Wesson with you..lol

I've camped in a sleeping bag (minimalist low impact backpacking) to my 21' travel trailer. At this stage of my life, I much prefer the comforts of hard walled and floor/roof "bliss" Never once have I felt unsafe or had any problems!

Saw this bunch in Amarillo last year. Looked like they were having too much fun.
If you google women RV you will find several web sites and RV groups dedicated to women traveling alone.

I'm a confirmed boondocker and have done a lot of solo camping, beginning in my tenting days and now in a little fiberglass trailer....the only critters I've ever had to fight off have been mice, mosquitos, biting flies, and yellowjackets. A popup will certainly keep any of those out as well as any other kind of trailer.

As for bears, one of those puppies can break into a steel CAR if it's so inclined. Just be smart about warnings/restrictions if camped in marauding Yogi country.


If you're worried about "criminals cutting through the sides", my suggestion is that you might want to rethink camping by yourself, or at least confine your camping to formal, secure campgrounds.

One of the folding A frame types might work for you.

Alinerfor example, there are more.

My POPUP is so easy to get into by just slipping your hand thru the window flap velcro and reaching inside and unlocking the door haha...

I do that alot when bringing in groceries etc... easier than sitting things down and looking for key...

Then on the other hand if you make it so secure will just make them mad and they will steal your whole rig...

I'm rigged with motion detector lights on both sides of my off-road popup but if you aren't around that just gives them light to see what they are doing I guess...

Best defense I have found is everything out-of-sight and anything important to me goes where I go in my truck.

Arming yourself is a two sided sword as well...

We have a large dog bowl outside with the name KILLER painted on and the end of large dog chain laying close by. Always have a police scanner going inside... Seems to work for us... We really have never had anything stolen from us that I know about in all my camping years... The RV group sort of sticks together for each other...

Never really camped much alone in a camp ground - Have done alot of tent/back pack camping alone on the Jeep trails in the high country of AZ years back.

Just be aware of your surroundings is best practice I guess

About the only place that i know about is Alaska. They have restrictions on canvas sided units in certain arrears, due to bears. You can purchase pop up units with hard sides, certain models.
I have seen quite a few times, a single women camping in tents, and other types of RV units. Just don't go camping in some way out spot by your self. Everything should be OK.
