Safety Recall N62/NHTSA 13V0528 (Dodge RAM 2003 to 08)

THIS JUST IN 2003 to 2008 Dodge RAM 1500/2500/3500 Left Tie Rod ball stud could 'snap in two' - according to Important Safety Recall N62/NHTSA 13V0528. I called my local Dodge to set an appointment for next week, because I've seen the damage caused once these suckers break. Last summer, my friend's 2007 RAM 2500 Tie Rod broke and "it wasn't pretty"

The letter I received yesterday from Chrysler also states it will require 1/2 hour inspection and an extra 1 hr. should the replacement of steering linkage component(s) be required.

In other words - DON'T WAIT FOR SPRING, DO IT NOW.:S

  • Pretty strange, all these recalls show up many, many years late. Kinda scary all these Dodge trucks running around unsafe all these years. Takes a certain number of 'documented cause' incidents to recall it, in the meantime, all you Dodge guys are driving around endangering your kids in some cases, and don't even know it.

And, that's not a Dodge phenomenon alone, happens with GM, Ford, Toyota etc.
  • I believe this is the same recall listed about a million times on this board about a month ago :W Yep got mine in the mail last week and will take it in oh about April or so since I don't drive it much in the winter months any longer.
  • Here's a cut n' paste of the recall notice from the NHSTA website. The notification date from Chrysler to NHSTA was November 8, 2013.

    SUMMARY:
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2003-2008 Dodge RAM 2500 4x4 and 3500 4x4, model year 2007-2008 Dodge RAM 3500 4x2 Cab Chassis and model year 2006-2008 Dodge RAM 1500 Mega Cab 4x4 trucks manufactured February 12, 2002, through February 13, 2008. The left tie rod assembly may break.
    CONSEQUENCE:
A failure of the tie rod assembly may result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
    REMEDY:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the steering linkage and install a new left tie rod assembly, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N62.
    NOTES:
This recall supersedes Chrysler tie rod recall 11V350. Vehicles that were previously remedied under recall 11V350 are also affected by this campaign.
