At the time we bought our F150 we towed an 18 foot boat so didn't need a truck with towing package. We decided to sell the boat and get a trailer. Our towrating is 5000 lb, although I've added the factory 7 pin harness and a receiver hitch and a factory tow package transmission cooler. When we started looking at trailers, one sales guy told me, "You need to buy a new truck first" (on the right track for the trailers they had on the lot). Another one told me, "nah, it's got a 2" receiver, I guarantee it'll tow 7500 lbs" The salesman we bought from responded, 'Well, I've only got 2 trailers that you can tow, lets look at those"....
