I often see the argument that people did something in the past with no ill consequences. Today's environment is different than 20 years or more back - You now have people towing at freeway speeds (or faster) with 2-3x the horsepower of the rigs referenced from the past which puts much more stress at the attachment point when something goes wrong. However, I will agree that many of the tried solutions of the past still would work great today if you are pulling with 150 hp at 35 mph.
