Satellite and Lance Camper

Can I hook up my satellite dish coaxial cable to the cable TV input on my Lance and connect the satellite receiver to the cable inside the camper or does the satellite coax need to be directly connected to the receiver?

Thanks,

John

  • Done and done! Bypassed the street-side cable TV input and went directly to the receiver. Perfect picture from my Winegard Anser portable dish. Having an adult beverage waiting for the big game.

Thanks for all of the input.

  • Yes - that was my understanding when we added sat option. The existing wiring path-splitters, powered outlet etc wasnt compatible. Even the RJ5 coax cable used in the camper itself can be an issue.
I ran a seperate direct line for the reciever and a connection under wing. Just one less thing to do, Ive always wanted to hook up the dish to the camper coax to verify it woulcnt work, but by the time I get dish dialed in-no longer curious :)

One of the nice things about our 'new' tv, it accepts input from the 3 different ant sources, select on the tv which to use.
  • I've always been too lazy to add another exterior cable port for the satellite. It is on my mental list of things to do but after 6 years, I'm guessing it won't ever get done. I run my dish cable through my emergency escape window and straight to the back of the receiver box.
  • As already stated it won't work as you need a clean path from the receiver to the dish without anything in it like splitters or amps. The receiver provides 18VDC to the LNB for operation.
  • Got it. Skip the exterior cable connection and route the satellite coax directly to the receiver.

    Thanks.

Once more, a highly satisfactory, rapid response. Love the forum.

  • It won't work if there is a splitter between satellite and receiver although there is a mod that allows the sat signal to reach the receiver unperturbed through the single exterior cable input.

Probably not - The SAT RCVR will need to send a DC CONTROL to the SAT DISH over the RG coax line.

The best way we found was to run a RG cable from the dish separately into the trailer and connect to the SAT RCVR we brought with us from home on our DIRECTV acct. Then we run VIDEO OUTPUT cables from the SAT RCVR to the VIDEO INPUT channel on the TV set.

This way we can use our inside TV set with the SAT RCVR to pick up standard satellite TV channels or the OTA roof antenna to pick up the NATL BROADCAST TV channels by just pushing the buttons on the TV REMOTE...

We never had any luck trying to use the CABLE CONNECTION to hookup the SAT TV stuff...
