Satellite antennae?

What kind of satellite radio reception can I expect with a Bigfoot cabover on a 2016 Ram crewcab with the antennae at the front edge of the truck roof?

  • won't work buy another antenna and mount drivers side on plastic valance by wipers unplug old antenna and plug new one in
  • Ok...I was over complicating it, as usual. I've got one that is hooked up to my XM boombox out in the garage. Antennae wire goes out the window and the little antennae puck sits on the window ledge. I've been closing the window on the wire everyday for 7 years. Keep thinking I'll break it one of these days.
I'll see how the stock one works with the camper before I tear the dash apart.
  • Yah, just do a search for the brand you have, ex: Amazon.com
    "Sirius RV Antenna"

I just got the simple one,

but I'm sure you can find them at any RV store or Radio/Electronic store...

(sorry, PM sent, I'm having a real problem trying to get this posted, forum keeps timing out or unavailable... so not sure what's going to show up...)

  • Tell me more about the hood antennae! Source?
I gotta have my satellite radio.
I can't go south...Gulf of Mexico will get in the way.
  • Yah, same here, antenna on roof like normal, but going in a N or NW direction it will cut out, make a slight change in direction, it starts up again. It can be annoying at times.

Also, in forest trees, canyons, to be expected I guess.

While I have the antenna for the hood of truck, I have yet to get it installed so dealing with the normal one.

Most of the time, or or specifically all of the time not in the N or NW direction and I suppose NE too, the reception is fine, Sirius or whatever it's called..

As noted above, it's all about line of sight...

PITA going north though, heheh... so I guess I should just head south all the time to Tierra del Fuego.. SA

With the normal location under the truck camper overhang you will not get any working satellite radio reception.

You will find the simplist things killing your signals. My truck has the standard install on the cab roof and most always my SAT RADIO is working great. When I pull into my drive here at the house I go under some power lines feeding the neighborhood here and it takes out my SAT RADIO reception haha...

Going under some overpasses on the Interstate takes it out as well...

Yeah I get the expected dead spots now. Just wondering if I will get no reception with the camper on the truck. I think you are saying none?
I read somewhere about how to relocate the antennae to the windshield wiper plastic valance. Don't remember where I saw it or why they did it.
