Satellite TV Cable TV ????

When an RV camp advertises Satellite TV what exactly does that mean. I have cable hookup in my camper. Will I need a sat box inside to watch or can I use my std cable hookup and use my TV tuner as usual.?Thanks

When an RV campground advertises satellite TV it probably means there is no tree cover and it is an RV parking lot. If that is what you like then that is good otherwise I would pass. ;)

In order to get satellite TV in your RV you need 3 things - antenna, satellite receiver with a paid satellite service (neither of which I have ever seen any campground provide) and a clear view of the southern sky. MIss any one of the three and you have no satellite TV.

Judging from your other questions, I will also advise you to not hook up a satellite antenna to your cable jack unless it is only to one inside jack and that line is not amplified. In my RV there is a cable jack and a satellite jack. The cable jack leads to two TVs while the satellite jack leads to only the main TV and there is no means to amplify the signal. I bring one of my DirecTV home receivers and use that in addition to my manual Winegard Carryout antenna dish. I then can see all the channels I get at home albeit in SD (as the antenna and receiver are both SD - good enough for camping).
  • you don't need anything special. they just get their TV service via a satellite, not cable.
    bumpy

I don't know. Never seen that.

Of course, bumpy. I was not thinking along those lines based on the other questions the OP had.

OP - in that case you just hook up as if it was cable TV since their sat TV subscription is being shared to the sites via cable. You don't need anything else other than the cable.
  • Do you need a converter to channel surf?. If they have satellite how do you switch channels.. I don't have a sat box ??or do you get just one channel. Not sure how sat works.
  • The ones I have seen, they offered you the connection for you camper and a listing of the channels available. However, not all offer the same number of channels.
  • For you it’s just like cable, you only need the length of cable to connect from their CPC to the trailer…

For them they have the dish, equipment, and a contract with the satellite company to redistribute the signal… chances are they will have fewer channels than the normal cable or satellite suscribers…
  • Our cabled tv is through satellite, with a dish net reciever for each channel (25) that is modulated to a different channel (4-28) to each site. It is no different than that from a cable provider. Just hook up your cable, select the correct input.
Maybe they are just advising you of their provider.
