It does NOT apply to the payload listed on the door sticker.
They are talking about how MAX possible payloads are estimated for a given model range. Not individual truck payloads.
As always, check the door sticker before signing.
If you are happy with the door sticker payload, then all is well.
EDIT: and whoa, more crazy b.s. than usual being slung here.

Chevy's website listed max payload for the crew cab 6.0 4x4 standard box as 3150 lbs. I narrowed it down to 4 trucks that had options I wanted and then opened up the doors to check the sticker. The one that had the highest sticker is the one I bought. The color irritated my wife but I said, "hey, you want a bigger camper, we need the most payload available." The sticker on my new truck states 2851 lbs. 300 less then "Max".
