- abslayerExplorerWell I looked at EC/Lance and when with a Adventure 980 RDS Better price and dam good quality.
In Fact at dealer had EC and Adventure IMO quality was as good or better than EC
And at the time had the back landing and step set up , PS EC has it now also - U_F_O_ExplorerThe compartment in the front, gives access to all the tank sensor wires, storage tray both ends of the camper. EC went bankrupt once not several times it was sold from one Epp family member to another which owned Adventurer. All 1st and 2nd gen are all older than the 2year original warranty so that is not a issue, Adventurer has been in the camper business over forty years.

Good and bad dealers can sure make a difference. I believe the internet has changed the way many organizations conduct business, and not necessarily for the better.
In the end, if each of us finds the rig that meets our needs and allows us to get out and explore the world, that's what it's all about.
I can't say the Lance dealer we went to was bad...they seem to have a pretty good reputation for service anyway...but they just refused to budge on price.
What have others experienced when negotiating "sticker price"?
I expect some flexibility...is that unrealistic?

What turned us away from the AF, was not only the weight, but also that the mfg doesn't seem to care how much their rigs weigh. In contrast, Lance really seems to want to improve their product by looking for ways to shave weight where they can. They even keep their holding tanks at a reasonable level, which I appreciate (if it had a 100-gallon fresh tank, I would probably fill it to capacity!) Lance also continues to invest in their manufacturing process, looking for precision and efficiencies.
AF also turned us off with their "mandatory option" shenanigans. Honestly, it doesn't even make any sense and makes me question their integrity and marketing tactics.
The straw that broke the camels back, was the local dealer and the blatant lies they tried to feed us, not to mention their rude comments.
Finally, we were already Lance owners and found our camper to be of high quality and very reliable. This gave us confidence in making our second camper a Lance too.
Funny thing, we found just opposite, the Lance dealers (yes three of them) we're flakes when we asked for pricing with certain options (over the phone after visiting the dealer) and we didn't even get a return call. We really tried to compare the AF to the Lance, but the dealers didn't want to play ball and the AF fit our needs better anyway without having to make costly changes in dinette configurations, etc.. It's a difficult decision to make and everyone is different in what they'll accept as a minor or major obstacle. We really enjoy the large fresh/gray/black tank sizes. We can go for days on end without having to worry about running out or over. ;) - billtexExplorer II

As the battery compartment is on the side...can anyone tell me what the front hatch (under the pass thru window) is on the front panel of the EC850?
Tx, Bill - billtexExplorer IIThank you Mr. Holt...good input.
B - brholtExplorer IIWhile I was not looking at the same models I can make a few general comments that were some of the "other" considerations for us.
Dealer. AF and EC were carried by a very strong dealer in my area with an excellent reputation (and my experience confirms it) The local Lance dealer was farther away, carried little inventory and didn't seem very interested in truck campers. I didn't feel good about working with them. Your experience may be different.
Price. The new Lances seemed very expensive. Maybe there was more room to negotiate than with the others. I didn't try.
Manufacturer. AF has a good reputation for supporting their products and that has been my experience. When I accidental "kicked" and broke a lite switch on the 2 months old camper I called them to see if I could buy a replacement. Instead, they had the dealer mail me a new switch for free. Lance is much farther away for us and seems to get more mixed reviews. EC has been in and out of bankruptcy several times. They may now have a stable home with Adventure but they didn't pick up the warranties on the older EC's. From a pure financial standpoint I understand but it didn't make me feel "good" about them.
Just my two cents. - billtexExplorer II

HI Bill,
Sorry I got the wrong first name.

That's OK....as far as the weight difference...let's say I am not convinced yet.
Folks that have scaled them locked/loaded are ~4000#.
That is no less than AF/EC.
Have you scaled yours?
They are all nice...but the difference in $ from the dealers I have talked to, and the standard equipment, just didn't make sense.
If you are inclined, would you PM me the dealer you worked with and any feedback on what you thought of the pricing you were offered.
Maybe we just visited the wrong dealer...they would not deviate from "sticker price"...at all.
