Scangauge vs Ultragauge for trans temp.

haven't used the ultraguage, but have the scangauge in 3 vehicles. If you want to measure transmission temp with the scangauge just make sure that the vehicle you have has codes for the scangauge to support transmission temp. not all vehicles do.

I bought a Edge gauge at Amazon.com for $310. I looked at the scan gauge, and wanted more features.

I can monitor cylinder head temp, transmission temp, coolant temp and many others. It also monitors MPG and I wanted to monitor RPM on the 2001 van that I bought without a tach.

I know - more expensive, but think of it this way. It can me moved from vehicle to vehicle, and can also check all the engine codes too.

Do you have an Android smartphone? I use this OBDII Bluetooth reader with the Torque Pro app on the Google Play store. Less than $30 for the combo and can read more than what most of us need. Tach, speed, coolant temp, accelration rate, MPG, and other things. Compare before you buy.

Out of the box it does not monitor trans temps, but you can add custom gauges if you can find the right PID for your truck. But just as ktmrfs said, not all vehicles have that available. My truck has a trans temp readout so I don't need it in the app.

X3 I use it on my F250,even though it has a temp guage

I love the Scan Guage on my F250, got it specifically to monitor transmission temp.

Purchased a Ultragauge for our '99 Suburban when we had it! Back then (5-6yrs) it would not read tranny temps on that model. Returned it, put in a sensor and pillar gauge. Newer Subs & P/Ups may well have the tranny temp in the Ultragauge programming now, don't know.

Went with Torque Pro and a bluetooth dongle when we picked up the Excursion. Works great, lots of info, more than most will ever need!! Don't use a phone, use a Samsung Player. That way I don't have to fumble with the unit if the cell phone rings!! But that doesn't happen hardly at all!!!

A lot of people use an old cell phone (don't we all have one or more!!) to run the app, and not involve the phone.

I checked a forum specific to my van, and it looks like this will work for me. I'm excited :).

I've had both the ScanGuage and the UltraGuage. I liked the Ultraguage better because it was easier to read and I could get more gauges on one page. Neither could read a trans temp in my Dodge. Eventually I switched to Torque Pro which could read it. I like Torque better than the other two. Just about everything is customizable in it and it's easy to get the perfect setup.
