The 'gap' being referred to had me confused, though I didnt like ours and reversed top step until our basement step arrived the gap was only 2".

But looking at Jefes pic noted as an example- hes using the extra bars to gain offset. So ya thats a half step gap. I mounted top step directly to bracket. So many variables in steps campers and what's needed to mount.
Im not sure- in Jefes case or simular he could easily add another step. Might still need a drop but would only be an 1". At least the pictures looks like the geometry/height of 5 steps just minus the tread. I sooner or later would be stepping into the gap.
