Seating Options

We went with the Host Mammoth with the sofa/table. Sitting next to each other as opposed to opposite has been fine. DW likes the sofa for laying on when reading or watching TV. I relax in the rear slide. I would have proffered the dinette but DW wanted the couch. So the couch it was.

You might like the Host Cascade with theater seating and an L shaped dinette where you can sit more opposed to each other.

They don't make Chalets anymore but I got a close up look at one and it is pretty big. Maybe a used one?

Nice problem to have deciding what to do with the “extra” seating position.

If you want to look at other floorplans in big TCs, I’d look at older Hosts including the Everest.

Congrats on the new F450. Love my crew cab. Yes I would love to have it be a few feet shorter but no regrets here.
Choosing the right camper is the funnest part. Enjoy!

The short length of the regular cab, and the tight turning radius of the F450, makes this truck really easy to drive. My thought was with the camper off, I have plenty of storage in the bed, and with buying a big camper anyway, I should have plenty of storage with the camper on. Lining the truck up to put the camper on should be much easier, and hence using the truck as a separate vehicle will be less of a hassle. Also, I have a little extra payload by eliminating the back seat.

Frankly I am a little surprised more people do not go this route. I realize the camper will look a little funny with the cabover extending so far over the cab. But I have never been accused of worrying about looks, at the expense of comfort.

I’ve had an extended-cabover on a regular-cab truck.
It’s fine, the only annoying part was I had to turn my windshield wipers off every time I stopped .

About the seating, I’ve always hated the dinettes in campers.

I have to confess that I didn’t know you could even GET a regular cab on the F450 pickup. I thought at first that you must be talking about a cab and chassis. But, it appears a regular cab is an option on the XL and XLT models. That’s great, because not everyone needs the extra room in the cab. If we had a newer TC with a little more storage room, and no pets that travel with us, we could probably go with a regular cab too.

I would have considered a regular cab if you could have options I wanted. Sadly only the crew cab gets anything above XLT. Call me spoiled. The other thing I was concerned about (likely unjustly) was the camper overhang interfering with upward vision.

I did look hard at the extended cab F350. In the end I went with a unit on the local dealers lot that had been there a while. Got a really good discount, actually less than the best deal on a fully loaded extended cab F350.

I had a Supercab. I like need the back seat, so a regular cab wouldn’t work no matter how it looked.

One thing you will need to deal with is the antenna. I’m assuming it has one. You can buy a shorter one that will clear at American Muscle. https://www.americanmuscle.com/mustang-short-antenna.html

Don’t worry. It’s ok that it isn’t a Mustang. :) They have 8, 14, and adjustable antennas.
